From the moment of entering the hospital every person was helpful towards me, nothing was too much trouble and this makes one feel better with what is a nerve racking experience when going into hospital. The treatment on the ward was calm and gave one confidence upon recovering.

Clean more often. I was sick on Wednesday and it’s Saturday morning and there’s still dried jelly I threw up on the floor.

My wife has been having chronic stomach pains for about 6 wks, and since this her blood pressure has been dangerously high. Have been to A&E 4 times since, all visits have been a long wait but not life threatening, The last visit to A&E the medics put her on a medication to help with the blood pressure problem. I am having to take her BP every other day. On monday her reading was 259/158 so I called 111 and was told to get her to A&E asap as this would be quicker than an ambulance. On arriving at A&E I had never seen nothing like it. They were queuing out of the door. The board said a 3 hr wait to be seen by triage and a 6 hr wait to see a doctor. The young man who checked us in was marvelous telling me not to leave my wife on her own. Even 111 called me to make sure we were there. now I know there is a system in place and everyone is there for a reason . But talking to some of the other patients I was dumbfounded that a young girl with a frozen shoulder and a young lad with supposed tendon damage of the foot was called through before my wife. Then I noticed patients that checked in after were called through before my wife. After numerous chats with reception she was finally called through after 3 and half hrs. She was taken straight through to a bed to lie down where BP was taken and was still (their words) critically high. Wife complained her legs were swelling, she had headache and had severe pins and needles in her arm to which none of this was acknowledged. After 12 hrs and changed medication they finally got it down to a stable level then let her home. I understand A&E is at crisis point but when you are seeing stroke adverts, act fast and then the experts leave you sitting there it's quite sarcastically laughable !

New fracture clinic is fabulous! Great that it is so near drop off point although dedicated drop off only rather than having parking would be great and would avoid drop off congestion.

Operation date Saturday 26th July 2021 Luke is autistic with communication differences & has Epilepsy. We as his parents have to communicate for him at times. He had to have both of his toenails removed due to ongoing infections under general anesthetic. This was a huge endeavor for him as he didn’t have full understanding of what was going to happen. We prepared him in the way that works well for him. We would like to thank all of the staff who cared for Luke, some names we remember some we didn’t get. Mr Kar Teoh and his registrar for doing the operation & Karen Thomson Learning Disability nurse for helping us in the first instance on our appointment with Mr Kar Teoh. The nurse who did his MRSA swabs and covid testing was calm and gave him time to be able to have the test done the nurse who took his blood for pre assessment. Eleanor Marriott the surgical bookings secretary who kept me informed the whole time and helped to put in place with Mr Teoh reasonable adjustments to the day so that Luke didn’t have to wait, and wait he didn’t, we arrived in the afternoon to the Netteswell Admissions unit and went straight in to see a lovely nurse called Abigail who had a lot of autism knowledge and adjusted to Luke’s communication needs. Chelsea the nurse who took as through to the theater and cared for him after who kept everything quiet. The anesthetist & his assistant who made adjustments to enable Steve and I to support Luke while having the cannula put in who allowed him his headphones and Luke went off to sleep calmly. Mr Teoh came straight out to tell us the operation went well, and we were allowed to be in recovery for when Luke woke up. Elizabeth the recovery nurse was gentle and let us know what was going on and what the machines did. Then to the Alexander Day unit where the nurse in charge (We didn’t get her name) was lovely. You may be thinking, why I am sending such a detailed list of the day’s events. The reason is it is such a difficult experience for an autistic individual to go through and could have ended up being a traumatic memory for him which would have resulted in us not being able to get him into a hospital ever again. Luke’s operation went really well because all the staff in the lead up & the day made it such a positive experience for him and us. They listened and made appropriate reasonable adjustments which made a huge difference to the whole day. Not all autistic individuals are the same everyone is different and will experience situations differently but with the right support and understanding of autism everything is possible. Reasonable adjustments are just that. Thank you for being open to our suggestions and listening.

We have always found PAH to be a friendly caring hospital. The only downside is the car parking.

Every step of the way from first entering the Hospital Thomas Rivers due to Covid I was treated with kindness a and patience until I left. One is apprehensive entering a hospital for an operation, the calmness portrayed by all the staff is no mean feat but confidence is then given to the patient.
